The Keys to a New Era in Health Tourism

The global health tourism market has become a major economy worth hundreds of billions of dollars. Different studies project medical tourism volumes exceeding USD 500 billion within the next ten years.

The new era encompasses healthcare technology, international brand management, trust, digital visibility, academic cooperation, insurance and global patient experience, alongside travel for treatment.

Türkiye has become a strong health tourism centre. Figures cited for 2025 indicate approximately 1.5 million international patients and revenue around USD 3 billion. This is an important achievement. But are we creating high value, or still competing largely on price?

Competitors are investing heavily. India grows through technology, scale and cost advantages. Thailand stands out in premium experience and wellness integration. South Korea has a strong position in advanced technology and aesthetics. Dubai and Gulf countries are expanding through luxury healthcare and global brands.

Türkiye’s strategy should increase value per patient, develop international brands and establish it as a centre of trust, alongside attracting more patients.

Hospitals and healthcare groups need global brands, overseas structures, international visibility and academic and technological partnerships.

The future winners will be those creating the greatest trust. Türkiye’s infrastructure, physician quality, investment and experience provide the capability.

The focus of the new era should be value creation.
